New quarter, new goals, and exciting projects ahead!

Welcome back, 8th graders! Last week, we kicked off the first week of Quarter 2 by exploring what we’ll be learning, discussing our upcoming projects, and getting started on some important activities.

Let’s review what we accomplished and what’s coming next!

πŸ—ΊοΈ Interactive Notebooks: States & Capitals Challenge

This quarter, we’re brushing up on our knowledge of the 50 states and their capitals!

Your interactive notebook will be an important part of this challenge.

  • Notebook Pages: 100–150
  • Weekly Goal: Complete 10 state pages each week.
  • Take-Home Option: You may take your notebook home to work on your assignments, but remember that you are responsible for keeping it safe and bringing it back to class.

By the end of this activity, you’ll have a valuable study resource to help you strengthen your knowledge of United States geography.

πŸͺΆ Quarter Project: Native American Cookbook

November is Native American Heritage Month, and we’re celebrating by creating something special!

Our class will work together to create a Native American Cookbook featuring traditional recipes and the cultural connections behind them.

Last week, we shared ideas and began discussing how we can make our cookbook informative, creative, and meaningful.

This project gives us an opportunity to explore how food connects people to their history, families, traditions, and communities.

πŸ’» Exact Path: Getting Started

Last week, we also began working in Exact Path!

Our first goal was to complete the diagnostic assessments. These assessments help identify the skills you’ve already mastered and the areas where you can continue growing.

Remember, a diagnostic assessment is not about getting every question correct. It’s about showing what you know so you can build your skills!

As we move forward, we’ll also begin completing writing-based assignments during social studies. You’ll have opportunities to explain your thinking, support your ideas, and become a stronger writer.

⭐ Looking Ahead

Quarter 2 is an opportunity to challenge yourself, develop new skills, and take pride in your progress.

As we continue this week, remember to:

  • Stay on track with your 10 weekly state pages.
  • Bring your interactive notebook to class.
  • Be ready to contribute to our cookbook project.
  • Give your best effort on Exact Path and writing activities.
  • Ask questions and take responsibility for your learning.

Every assignment is an opportunity to learn something new. You don’t have to know everything today, but you should aim to know more tomorrow than you did yesterday!

Let’s make Quarter 2 a great one, SS8! πŸŽ‰
