Hey, Middle Schoolers! πŸ‘‹

Let’s talk about something everyone needs: bathroom breaks! 🚻

We want everyone to have an opportunity to use the restroom while also making sure we’re spending our class time learning.

That’s why we have a few simple bathroom procedures to follow.

⏰ Timing Matters!

Our classroom follows the 15-Minute Rule:

  • First 15 minutes of class: No regular bathroom breaks. This is when we get settled, review instructions, and begin our lessons.
  • Middle of class: Bathroom breaks are permitted when needed. Just follow our sign-out procedures!
  • Last 15 minutes of class: No regular bathroom breaks. This is when we finish assignments, review important information, and prepare to transition.

Good news! Students have an opportunity to use the restroom between classes as a group. Take advantage of that time!

If you have an urgent bathroom need or a medical concern, please let your teacher know privately.

πŸ“ The Bathroom Sign-Out Procedure

Need to use the restroom during class? Here’s what to do:

  1. Ask for permission. Let your teacher know you need a bathroom break.
  2. Sign out. Find the bathroom sign-out sheet on the counter near the classroom door.
  3. Record your departure time. Write down the time you’re leaving the classroom.
  4. Take a hall pass. You must have your hall pass with you while you’re outside the classroom.
  5. Return promptly. Go directly to the restroom and return to class when you’re finished.
  6. Sign back in. Record the time you returned on the sign-out sheet and return the hall pass.

Remember: Every bathroom trip requires a sign-out, a hall pass, and a sign-in when you return!

🌟 Why Do We Have This Procedure?

These expectations help us:

  • Protect valuable instructional time.
  • Keep track of students who are outside the classroom.
  • Make classroom transitions smoother.
  • Build responsibility and independence.
  • Maintain a safe and organized learning environment.

Middle school is about developing good habits, and following classroom procedures is one way to practice them!

🎯 Your Challenge: Bathroom Procedure Check!

Before your next bathroom break, see if you can answer these questions:

1. When are regular bathroom breaks not permitted during class?

2. Where is the bathroom sign-out sheet located?

3. What two times must you record on the sign-out sheet?

4. What must you take with you when leaving the classroom?

5. What should you do when you return?

πŸ† Bonus Challenge

Practice following the entire bathroom procedure correctly without needing a reminder!

Final Reminder: Plan ahead, respect our classroom time, and remember to sign out AND sign back in.

Thanks for helping keep our classroom safe, organized, and ready for learning! πŸš€
